Bulgaria wins full set of medals at Virtus games

Bulgaria's athletes claimed a full set of medals on the penultimate day of the 2026 Virtus European Summer Games for athletes with intellectual impairments, taking place in Poland, the Bulgarian Federation of Adapted Physical Activity said on Thursday.

Aleksandar Asenov further cemented his reputation as one of the competition's fastest sprinters. After winning silver in the shot put, the athlete coached by Dimitar Petrov claimed the European title in the men's 100 metres, crossing the finish line in 13.32 seconds, CE Report quotes BTA.

Viktor Karadzhov also secured his second medal of the Games in the men's 800 metres. After taking bronze in the 1,500 metres, the athlete coached by Angel Kolev won silver this time with a personal time of 2:36.19, finishing behind only France's Theo Geoffroy, who claimed gold in 2:14.38. Bulgaria's other representative in the event, Mario Antonov, placed fifth in 3:04.54.

Svetoslav Bogdanov added a bronze medal for Bulgaria in the discus throw, finishing third with a best throw of 17.34 metres. Italy's Daniele Gerini won the European title with 28.09 metres, while the second Bulgarian competitor, Boyan Vandov, narrowly missed the podium, placing fourth with 13.80 metres.

On the final day of the competition, Bulgaria will be represented in the 200 metres, 5,000 metres, javelin throw and the 1,500-metre race walk, where the national team will again be aiming for podium finishes.
