Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner admitted that he still feels a little nervous when speaking with members of the British royal family. The Wimbledon final was watched from the stands by Princess Kate, Prince William, and their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

As patron of the tournament, Princess Kate also presented the championship trophy, CE Report quotes STA.

Sinner, who successfully defended his Wimbledon title by defeating Germany's Alexander Zverev, had the opportunity to speak briefly with Princess Kate after the trophy ceremony.

The Italian star said he was no less nervous than he had been the previous year when he won Wimbledon for the first time.

"I feel so much respect that I never quite know where the boundary is," Sinner said with a laugh during his press conference about meeting members of the royal family.

"I asked the children if they were still playing tennis. They were very happy and, yes, they still play. We chatted for a bit. It was obvious that they really love the sport," the typically reserved South Tyrolean told reporters.

On Saturday, Princess Kate also presented the trophy after the women's final, in which Linda Nosková defeated Karolína Muchová. Earlier in the tournament's opening week, she made an unexpected appearance at the grass-court event in London to watch several matches.
