Italian olympian gets prison sentence in rape case
Antonino Pizzolato, who won bronze medals in weightlifting at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, has been sentenced by the Trapani court to five years and four months in prison for gang sexual assault.
The other three defendants—Davide Lupo, Claudio Tutino, and Stefano Mongiovì, all from the province of Agrigento—were also convicted, CE Report quotes ANSA.
The four men were reported to authorities by a 27-year-old Finnish tourist, who said she was raped on July 22, 2022.
Antonino Pizzolato (born 20 August 1996) is an Italian weightlifter, Olympian, and three-time European Champion competing in the 85 kg category until 2018 and the 81 kg and 89 kg categories starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the weight classes.
