Tyson Fury announces comeback with fight in UK
Former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury will face Russia’s Arslanbek Mahmudov in the British boxer’s comeback fight on April 11, Netflix announced. The streaming platform will broadcast the bout, AFP reported.
At the beginning of January, Fury said on social media that he was returning to the ring after initially announcing his retirement following two consecutive defeats to Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
“I’ve been away for a while, but I’m back. I’m 37 now and I’m still fighting,” said the man nicknamed the “Gypsy King” on his Instagram account, after posting videos earlier this week showing him training in Thailand.
For his return on April 11, Fury will take on Arslanbek Mahmudov, a 36-year-old Russian boxer based in Canada, at a venue in the United Kingdom that has yet to be announced. The fight will be streamed on Netflix.
“I’m excited about this opportunity,” said Mahmudov, who has won 21 of his 23 professional fights. “I’m going to war. Tyson Fury was a great champion. I’ll be more prepared than ever to leave with a crushing victory,” he added.
Fury had been preparing for a long-anticipated fight against fellow Briton Anthony Joshua, also a former heavyweight world champion, but Joshua’s future in boxing is uncertain following a road accident in December in Nigeria in which two of his close friends were killed.
Tyson Fury has repeatedly announced his retirement before changing his mind, including after his victory over Dillian Whyte in April 2022, when he said he “had nothing left to prove to anyone,” only to return to competition a few months later.
The Briton (34 wins, including 24 by knockout, one draw and two defeats) announced his retirement again in January 2025 after his second loss to Usyk.
