Real Madrid extends 17-game home win streak
Spain’s Real Madrid defeated Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv 98–86 at home in the 21st round of the men’s EuroLeague. The victory was Real’s 17th consecutive home win against Maccabi, whose last success in Madrid dates back to March 11, 2010.
The Madrid side recorded their third straight and 13th overall win of the season in the EuroLeague, placing them sixth in the standings. Maccabi Tel Aviv suffered a third consecutive loss and sit 14th with an 8–13 record, CE Report quotes BTA.
Mario Hezonja was the top scorer for the hosts with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, while Walter Tavares added 9 points and 11 rebounds. Tavares topped the all-time EuroLeague rebounding list during the third quarter and finished the game with a career total of 2,016 rebounds. For the Israeli visitors, John DiBartolomeo contributed 14 points and 4 rebounds.
In Athens, Panathinaikos beat Italy’s Virtus Bologna 84–71 at home, returning to winning ways after two consecutive losses. Panathinaikos are seventh in the standings with 13 wins and 8 losses, while Virtus Bologna are 12th with a 10–11 record. The hosts started strongly and led 23–15 after the first quarter, going into halftime ahead 39–33. In the second half, Panathinaikos maintained control to secure the win.
As reported by CE Report, Kendrick Nunn led the Greek side with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, while Carson Edwards finished with 24 points and 4 rebounds for the visitors.
In the other two EuroLeague games on Thursday night, Valencia lost 92–101 at home in Spain to Monaco, despite 17 points and 2 rebounds from Alpha Diallo. Dubai Basketball defeated Turkey’s Fenerbahce 92–81 at home, with McKinley Wright scoring 22 points and grabbing 2 rebounds, while reigning champions Fenerbahce were led by Wade Baldwin with 21 points and 5 assists.
