Romania launches special coin marking chess milestone
The National Bank of Romania (BNR) will launch on Monday, into numismatic circulation, a copper-plated tombac coin dedicated to the theme "Centenary of the Romanian Chess Federation", the bank announced in a press release.
According to BNR, the obverse of the coin features a design including a rook and a pawn on a chessboard, the inscription "ROMANIA" in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the face value "1 LEU", and the year of issue "2025," CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
The reverse of the coin presents a graphic composition depicting a chess clock in the foreground and a chessboard in the background, along with the inscriptions "FEDERAȚIA ROMÂNĂ DE ȘAH" (Romanian Chess Federation) in an arc and "100 ANI" (100 years).
The copper-plated tombac coins are packaged in transparent methacrylate capsules and placed in presentation leaflets, which are inserted into cardboard folders.
The maximum mintage for this coin is 5,000 pieces.
The sale price for the copper-plated tombac coin is 240.00 lei, excluding VAT, and includes the presentation leaflet and cardboard folder.
The coins have legal tender status in Romania. The launch of these numismatic coins will take place through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj, Constanța, Dolj, Iași, and Timiș.
