Albania's Skënderbeu U-19 achieves historic result against English giants

Skënderbeu U-19 registered a historic result by holding Aston Villa U-19 to a 1-1 draw in the semifinal stage of the UEFA Youth League qualifiers, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

The first leg took place in Korçë, kicking off at 16:00. The visitors took the lead after initially missing a penalty, with Wilson scoring the opener. However, Skënderbeu equalized just 3 minutes later through Ensar Beqiri. The second half saw no further goals.

The return leg will be played on November 5th in England. The youth side from Korçë is aiming to write history in European football, having already eliminated Inter d’Escaldes in the previous round.

Ironically, Skënderbeu’s senior team is currently serving a 10-year UEFA ban due to past disciplinary actions. The ban, which originally stemmed from 10 disqualified matches, evolved into a full decade-long suspension. The senior team will need to earn promotion back to Albania’s Superliga and reach the Final Four to once again participate in European competitions.
