Cameroon misses direct 2026 World Cup spot
Cameroon failed to directly qualify for the 2026 World Cup after a 0-0 draw with Angola. This result means the Indomitable Lions will now have to play in the qualification playoffs in November, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
After the match, several fans harshly criticized the president of the football federation, Samuel Eto'o, at the Ahmadou-Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé. A video shows Eto’o being held back by two men as fans mocked him and shouted:
“You have to leave. It’s your fault we didn’t qualify.”
Justice Minister Jean de Dieu Momo stated that the group of fans was provoking, and security intervened to remove them. He emphasized that Eto'o remained dignified and did not get involved in any altercations.
Cape Verde won Cameroon’s group and will play in a World Cup final tournament for the first time in its history.
