The Italian city of Udine is today under extraordinary security measures due to the Italy–Israel match, valid for the European “play-off” phase of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The match will take place at 20:45 at the “Stadio Friuli,” before about 10,000 fans, as authorities have limited capacity for security reasons, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

At the same time, a pro-Palestine march has been announced in the city, expected to gather about as many participants as the number of fans in the stadium. For this reason, the Italian Ministry of the Interior has prepared a broad security plan, with about 1,000 police forces, carabinieri, and soldiers on the ground, as well as surveillance from helicopters and drones.

Around the stadium, a “red zone” has been declared, where strict controls will be carried out with metal detectors and X-ray equipment. Snipers will also be placed at some points, while the Israeli team is escorted by agents of the secret service “Mossad.”

The prefect of Udine has banned the sale of drinks in glass bottles or cans and has ordered the removal of tables, chairs, and umbrellas from the outdoor areas of bars and restaurants near the match zone.

The measures aim to avoid any incidents during an evening considered “high security risk.”
