Gianni Infantino awarded Kosovo’s presidential medal
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has been awarded the Presidential Medal by the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
After receiving the medal, Infantino was visibly emotional and admitted it during his speech. He said Kosovo is his home and dedicated the medal to Kosovo football legend Fadil Vokrri.
“What a pleasure it is for me to be at home, in Kosovo today, and to receive this recognition from a country like yours. Today, Kosovo is the capital of the football world. I want to dedicate this medal to the legend of Kosovo football, Fadil Vokrri. I remember many meetings with Vokrri when Kosovo was still a very young country. It wasn’t easy to meet people from Kosovo because everywhere, the focus was on your country’s status. At that time, I understood that Kosovo has people who believe in their country. I used to tell Vokrri, ‘Let’s see what we can do,’ but he was at every door and window I opened, asking for Kosovo’s admission into FIFA — and I had no choice. We told Kosovo: ‘Welcome to FIFA,’” Infantino said.
He then invited all players of the Kosovo National Team to the stage, saying they are powerfully showing the world who Kosovo truly is.
