Olympiacos wins Women’s Water Polo Super Cup
Olympiacos maintained its perfect record in the Women’s Water Polo Super Cup, winning the trophy for the third time in as many tournaments held.
The “Reds” defeated champion Vouliagmeni 14-11 in an exciting match at the Paleo Faliro swimming pool, starting the season with a title, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.
The game was spectacular, with a very fast pace and beautiful goals, reminiscent of last May’s thrilling finals series, when NOB ended Olympiacos’ 11-year dynasty in the A1 league. The two teams were tied until the end of the third quarter (11-11), but in the final period Dimitris Kravaritis’ squad showed more strength and clarity. They took the lead with a goal by Triha, extended the difference thanks to a great counterattack effort by Santa, and Plevritou, in a player-up situation, sealed the victory for the Piraeus team, which kept Vouliagmeni scoreless in the last quarter.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday (October 5) in Piraeus, for the league opener.
