For the first time, Chisinau will host the European Weightlifting Championship for seniors, taking place at Arena Chisinau from April 13-21, 2025. Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun discussed the championship’s organization with European Weightlifting Federation President Antonio Conflitti. Perciun highlighted Moldova’s strong weightlifting tradition and the importance of hosting such a prestigious competition, which will inspire young athletes and elevate the country’s presence in global sports.

“This event is an exceptional opportunity for our athletes to compete at home. It will showcase Moldova’s ability to host high-level competitions,” Perciun said, citing national weightlifting champions like Tudor Casapu, Marin Robu, and Elena Cîlcic.

Conflitti emphasized the championship’s significance, noting that it will attract top European athletes and weightlifting enthusiasts. “This is a major event that will boost Moldova’s image in the sports world,” he said.

The Moldovan government has allocated 6.5 million lei for the event, with additional funding from the Federation and sponsors.
