Romanian tennis player Irina Begu has moved on to the second round of the WTA 1,000 tournament at Indian Wells after a hard-fought victory over American Ann Li. Begu secured the win 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 in just over two hours, CE Report quotes Agerpres

The 34-year-old now holds a 2-1 lead in head-to-head matches against Li. With this win, Begu earns $35,260 and 35 WTA points. In the next round, she will face British player Katie Boulter, the tournament's 25th seed, in their first-ever meeting.

Two other Romanian players, Jaqueline Cristian and Sorana Cirstea, are also competing in the main draw at Indian Wells.
