Simona Halep Announces Retirement from Tennis

Former world number one Simona Halep has announced her retirement after losing in the first round of the Transylvania Open to Lucia Bronzetti on Tuesday, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

"I'm making this decision with my soul... To be competitive requires much more, and at this moment, it is no longer possible," the two-time Grand Slam champion said.

Halep, 33, cited ongoing struggles with a knee injury as a key factor in her decision. She leaves the sport with an impressive career, having won the 2018 French Open and 2019 Wimbledon titles.

"Life goes on, there is life after tennis, and I hope we will see each other again," she added.
