Croatia's tourism sector sees robust pre-season

More than 440,000 tourists are currently staying in Croatia, which is a very strong tourism result for the pre-season period, Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) Director Kristjan Staničić said.

He assessed that it confirms Croatia’s development into a year-round tourist destination, CE Report quotes HINA.

“We must be aware that in the pre-season we generate only around 15 percent of the total annual tourist traffic. The main months are still ahead of us. We have entered June, while July and August will be very dynamic,” Staničić said in an interview with HRT’s daily news program.

He announced the continuation of activities aimed at strengthening the pre-season and post-season, developing continental tourism, and increasing Croatia’s presence on digital communication channels, while further positioning the country as a sustainable tourist destination.

Speaking about tourism prices, Staničić said that many hoteliers, campsites, and private accommodation providers had adjusted their prices following appeals from the government and the tourism sector to lower them.

“After appeals from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Tourism, and myself, the tourism sector responded positively. Numerous hoteliers, campsites, and accommodation providers adjusted their prices. I think this is a good development and has demonstrated that Croatia remains price-competitive in the Mediterranean,” he said.

He added that he expects other sectors, such as retail and transport, to adjust their prices as well.

Commenting on the increase in the flat-rate tax for private accommodation providers, Staničić described the measure as a positive step and stated that the effects of the government’s package of measures aimed at limiting the growth of short-term rentals are already visible.

“Long-term rentals have increased, while short-term rentals have decreased. It is certain that this measure will contribute to a more favorable structure of accommodation capacities,” he said.

He also addressed the hotel sector, highlighting that significant investments are underway in high-quality accommodation facilities both along the coast and in continental Croatia, which, he said, should further strengthen the competitiveness of Croatian tourism.
