Moldova approves talks on new development agreement with Türkiye

The Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Türkiye will negotiate a new cooperation protocol on the general terms and conditions for development cooperation. Moldova's Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy has approved the launch of negotiations and the signing of the document, which will enable the implementation of development projects and programs with Turkish support.

The protocol will establish the legal and institutional framework needed to carry out development projects in Moldova through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

According to the document, cooperation between the two countries will focus on several priority areas, including economic development, agriculture and the agri-food industry, infrastructure, energy, environmental protection, education, healthcare, and culture.

The new protocol also предусматривает strengthening institutional capacities and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Moldova.

The agreement will replace a similar cooperation protocol signed between Moldova and Türkiye in 2015, which is set to expire in November 2026.

The new protocol will remain in force for five years, with the possibility of automatic renewal for successive periods if both parties agree to continue their cooperation.

According to Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the bilateral legal framework between Moldova and Türkiye currently includes 68 bilateral agreements.
