BiH election technology changes raise questions over transparency

The Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović, raised serious concerns over the manner and timing of introducing new technologies into the electoral process, particularly given that their implementation is being introduced in an election year, while the electoral process is already underway.

She said this raises questions about legality, transparency, the readiness of the election administration and the protection of ballot secrecy, CE Report informs via the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina's official website.

Cvijanović said she supports the modernization of the electoral process, but stressed that technological solutions cannot be an end in themselves and must not undermine the fundamental principles of elections, above all the secrecy of the ballot, the ability to verify the electoral process and the protection of voters’ freely expressed will.

The Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina stressed that the fundamental objective must remain a transparent, fair and credible electoral process, conducted fully in accordance with the law, in which ballot secrecy and the democratic will of voters are fully protected.
