Putin cannot divide NATO, Rutte says

NATO member states have all the options they need to counter hybrid attacks from Russia, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

“(Russian President Vladimir) Putin knows very well that he will not be able to divide us. And we have all the response options we need when it comes to hybrid attacks,” Rutte said at a press conference in Brussels.

The NATO chief also stressed that the Russian strike on a train in Ukraine near the Polish border on Sunday demonstrated how desperate Vladimir Putin has become.

“Russia is becoming increasingly reckless as it continues its terrible war against Ukraine,” Mark Rutte said.

Ukraine’s state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia reported that a Russian drone struck the locomotive of a train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw, just two kilometers from the Polish border. The train crew, which was carrying more than 200 passengers, had been warned of the threat in advance, and no one was injured as a result.

Kyiv, which has reported a significant increase in Russian provocations along the border between Ukraine and NATO, suspects that the attack may have targeted a train carrying European representatives.

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed the attack on railway infrastructure in western Ukraine on Sunday, claiming that the infrastructure was being used to transport weapons from Europe to Ukraine.
