Lithuania to support Moldova’s EU path during 2027 presidency

Lithuania will continue to support Moldova’s European integration, including during its rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, which begins on January 1, 2027, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

The issue was discussed on Thursday during a meeting between Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi and Lithuania’s new ambassador to Chișinău, Mindaugas Kačerauskis.

The meeting took place as Kačerauskis began his diplomatic mandate in Moldova. The two officials discussed priorities for bilateral cooperation, ongoing projects and opportunities to expand collaboration in the areas of security and defense.

Moldova’s accession process to the European Union was a key topic of the talks, including the upcoming Lithuanian presidency of the Council of the EU.

During the meeting, Kačerauskis said that supporting Moldova’s accession to the European Union would be among the priorities of his mandate and expressed his readiness to work closely with the authorities in Chișinău.

Popșoi wished the ambassador success in his new role and expressed confidence that relations between Moldova and Lithuania would continue to develop both bilaterally and in the context of Moldova’s European integration.

“We are grateful to Lithuania for its support for the Republic of Moldova. We have a very close partnership with Lithuania, built over time on trust and mutual support. We want to continue developing this relationship and build on the solid foundation we already have,” Popșoi said.

The foreign minister said Moldova would continue implementing reforms and strengthening its institutions, stressing that these efforts are primarily aimed at benefiting citizens and improving their quality of life.

The officials also discussed priorities for cooperation in security and defense, as well as ongoing bilateral projects.

Diplomatic relations between Moldova and Lithuania were established on July 8, 1992.
