FM Petrova outlines priorities for Bulgaria's diplomatic service
Bulgaria will remain an active and responsible member of both the European Union and NATO, working not only to participate but also to strengthen the unity, stability, connectivity, development and security of the two alliances and the wider region, Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova said during a reception marking Bulgarian Diplomatic Service Day.
According to the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event was attended by National Assembly Chair Mihaela Dotsova, deputy prime ministers, ministers, members of parliament, diplomats, ministry officials, magistrates, journalists and public figures, CE Report quotes BTA.
In her address, Petrova described the diplomatic service as a longstanding pillar of Bulgarian statehood and the country's first line of defense in protecting national interests on the international stage. She said today's increasingly complex global environment presents diplomatic services with growing challenges.
Among the ministry's key priorities, Petrova highlighted the expansion of economic diplomacy, the modernization of consular services and continued support for Bulgarian citizens and businesses. She said the diplomatic service should create opportunities for young people and businesses while protecting the rights of Bulgarian communities abroad.
The foreign minister thanked diplomats and ministry staff for their work in defending Bulgaria's national interests, strengthening international partnerships and enhancing trust in the country.
Petrova also emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy and the role of Bulgarian artists, academics and athletes in promoting the country's image abroad. During the ceremony, she presented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' honorary certificate to the Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices female choir in recognition of its contribution to promoting Bulgarian culture internationally.
She said supporting Bulgaria's cultural ambassadors would become a permanent initiative of the ministry.
National Assembly Chair Mihaela Dotsova also addressed the event, thanking Bulgarian diplomats for their dedicated service and highlighting the importance of their professionalism and commitment amid today's complex international environment.
