Albanian opposition condemns Serbian minister's remarks on Kosovo

Albanian representatives of the Democratic Party in the Parliamentary Committee for Europe and Foreign Affairs condemned the inflammatory remarks of Serbian Minister Snežana Paunović, who openly stated that Kosovo should have been ethnically cleansed.

DP MP Albana Vokshi accused the ruling majority of remaining silent on the issue and called for the formal adoption of a condemnation statement, CE Report quotes ATA.

“True patriotism is measured in deeds of defense, not in empty rhetoric,” said Vokshi.

The opposition proposed that the Committee should adopt an official stance against the Serbian minister and demand international condemnation of her remarks, which constitute a dangerous promotion of ethnic cleansing.

The opposition proposed that the Committee condemns Paunović’s remarks and acknowledge the war crimes committed during the Milosevic era in Kosovo.

On his part, Chairman of the Committee for Europe and Foreign Affairs, socialist MP Igli Hasani stated that the Socialist majority—through the Prime Minister, the Foreign Ministry, and the parliamentary leader—has already reaffirmed its stance, stating it will not join the opposition’s proposal for a separate statement.
