Trump dismisses calls to arrest Netanyahu during UN visit

U.S. President Donald Trump said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would not be arrested while in the United States, two days after New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani suggested such a possibility, AFP and Reuters reported, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

"Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested, under any circumstances, while he is in the United States of America," Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, praising Netanyahu's role in the war against Iran.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said in an interview published by The New York Times on Saturday that he was discussing the legal possibility of arresting the Israeli prime minister during the UN General Assembly in September, arguing that "his place is in The Hague."

The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu over alleged crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip in connection with Israel's military campaign launched after the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023.
