FBI Director Kash Patel plans visit to Russia

FBI Director Kash Patel is planning a visit to Russia later this year, likely in mid-October, Politico reported on Monday, citing the Turkish news agency Anadolu.

Quoting a U.S. official and a person familiar with the matter, Politico reported that the plans come as the United States and Russia remain at odds over the ongoing war in Ukraine, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

According to Politico, Patel is expected to visit Russia on October 14-15, with stops scheduled in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

His host will likely be Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), the country's security agency and the successor to the Soviet-era KGB, the official said.

It remains unclear whether Patel will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin or any of his senior advisers. The agenda for the visit has not been disclosed.

The last known FBI director to visit Russia was Robert Mueller in 2013. Three years later, Mueller was appointed special counsel to investigate potential ties between Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia.
