Zelensky meets US senators in New York

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky began his visit to New York with a meeting with U.S. senators, during which the sides discussed Ukraine’s need for protection against ballistic missiles and agreed to step up cooperation on sanctions.

The Ukrainian President said this on Facebook, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

“I began my visit to New York by a meeting with U.S. senators. I thanked them for their strong bipartisan support for Ukraine and for passing The Lindsey Graham’s sanctions bill. This is absolutely the right step, and once it is fully implemented, peace and guaranteed security will certainly be closer,” he wrote.

According to Zelensky, the sides agreed that their teams would work more closely on sanctions. He also briefed the senators on the de-escalation proposals he will discuss with the President of the United States.

“We also raised our need for ballistic missile interceptors and the challenges we face ahead of the coming winter. There are things we can do together with America to protect lives. American made Patriot Systems cannot be replaced at this point, and the more anti-ballistic protection Ukraine has, the less emboldened Russia will be to continue its strikes and prolong the war,” he said.

As reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in New York for the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. During his visit, the President is scheduled to hold about 20 meetings, including with the U.S. President and European leaders, as well as members of Congress. His agenda also includes signing a new Drone Deal and strengthening air defense.
