Zelensky demands immediate dismissal of Ukraine’s Prosecutor General

President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the Verkhovna Rada to immediately support the dismissal of Ruslan Kravchenko from the post of Prosecutor General.

He made this statement on Telegram, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

“This Prosecutor General has only one option: dismissal from office. That is exactly what I told him,” the President noted.

According to him, “Ukraine has seen all the reasons. If he considers this political pressure, let him call it that. I ask lawmakers to support this dismissal without delay.”

As reported, on September 4, the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) announced that, as part of Operation “Carthage,” they had uncovered a criminal organization that allegedly systematically received bribes from fraudulent call centers and laundered the proceeds.

According to investigators, an official from the Office of the Prosecutor General established the group in mid-2025, recruiting active prosecutors and close associates into it. The participants imposed extortion fees to ensure the unhindered operation of shadow call centers that were defrauding Ukrainians and foreign citizens on a massive scale, NABU claims.

On September 6, the High Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) imposed a preventive measure in the form of pretrial detention, with an alternative bail of 120 million hryvnias, on Serhii Kropyva, deputy head of the Department of International Cooperation, who is accused of covering up the activities of fraudulent call centers.

At the same time, the Office of the Prosecutor General stated that a legal assessment is needed regarding NABU’s nighttime searches of the OPG leadership’s offices and detectives’ access to materials from other criminal proceedings.

On September 6, Kravchenko issued a statement asserting that he had no involvement in covering up illegal call centers. Kravchenko stated that he had suspended an OGP employee implicated in the NABU investigation from performing official duties and had ordered the preparation of a personnel decision regarding the employee’s dismissal.

He ordered an audit of the work of the Department of International Cooperation and the Cybercrime Division, specifically to review decisions made and the results of their work.

In addition, Kravchenko ordered that all employees of the structural units involved in the procedural oversight and investigation of cases related to illegal call centers undergo polygraph testing. Based on the results of the reviews, personnel and administrative decisions will be made, and—if warranted—criminal-procedural decisions will follow.

Late in the evening on September 7, Kravchenko announced that he had submitted his resignation as Prosecutor General.

On the morning of September 14, Kravchenko stated that he had signed a notice of suspicion against NABU Director Semen Kryvonos.
