Trump backs Infantino for UN Secretary-General

U.S. President Donald Trump wants FIFA President Gianni Infantino to become the next Secretary-General of the United Nations, the New York Post reported, citing sources.

According to the report, Trump believes that Infantino "is respected by everyone around the world and has a special ability to bring people together."

The next UN Secretary-General is due to be elected later this year to succeed António Guterres, whose term ends in late December, CE Report quotes ANSA.

Gianni Infantino has served as FIFA president since 2016, overseeing the expansion of international football competitions and the organization of multiple FIFA tournaments. António Guterres has led the United Nations since January 2017 and is completing his second five-year term, which concludes at the end of this year.
