Albanian PM names most worrying aspect of protests

“The most disturbing takeaway from the recent protests is the rise of a toxic, mob-like intolerance. Fueled by online harassment, this oppressive spirit has spilled into the streets, actively intimidating and silencing anyone who disagrees with the crowd”, wrote Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama on social media while sharing the statement of the Union of Albanian Journalists.

In his post, Rama emphasized that “The Union of Albanian Journalists operates entirely independently of the government, engaging with it only to voice criticism or hold it accountable,” CE Report quotes ATA.

“I am sharing the Union’s attached statement because it highlights the most disturbing truth about these recent protests: the fascist mentality of online bullies has spilled into the streets. As the attached video shows, these marching mobs recently assaulted drivers for simply failing to honk their horns, acting on the orders of a ruthless, extremist fringe,” Rama wrote.
