Naval drone explodes in Romania
A naval drone was discovered this morning in the port of Constanța, on Romania's Black Sea coast, prompting authorities to immediately evacuate the area.
A few minutes after the drone was found, a powerful explosion was heard in the port area.
Romania's Ministry of Defence confirmed the explosion and stated that no injuries were reported, CE Report quotes ANSA.
The unmanned vessel had been located near a pier used by the Romanian Agency for Saving Human Lives at Sea (ARSVOM). It remains unclear whether the drone was deliberately detonated by bomb disposal experts or exploded on its own.
Witnesses quoted by local media reported hearing a loud blast across several areas of the port. The Emergency Situations Inspectorate announced that it would hold a press conference to provide further details about the incident.
The episode comes just days after another serious incident in eastern Romania, when a Russian Geran-2 drone crashed into a residential building in Galați, causing an explosion, a fire, and minor injuries to two people.
