Bosnia’s priority remains EU path, not US alignment, says Sabina Ćudić
Sabina Ćudić, president of Naša stranka, stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s priority must remain its European path and European standards.
Particularly regarding the energy sector and US investment interests, in light of current political circumstances related to the status of the High Representative and intensified discussions on strategic infrastructure and energy projects, CE Report quotes FENA.
“With due respect to our friends in Washington, our plan is not to join the United States, but the European Union. Our political decisions must primarily be aligned with the interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina, European standards, and the obligations Bosnia and Herzegovina has on its European path. Of course, in line with that, we are also analyzing American economic interests in the country and the region,” Ćudić emphasized.
Naša stranka generally supports the Southern Interconnection project and considers it important for energy security and the diversification of supply sources.
“I would like to remind that we are practically the only party that intervened in the text of the Law on the Southern Interconnection with the aim of aligning it with the principles of transparency, institutional responsibility, and protection of the public interest. At the same time, we stress that no individual project can or should be placed above Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path. Therefore, we believe that the ratification of the interstate agreement with Croatia, as well as support for the contract between the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the investor, must come as part of a package together with the remaining European laws, including the two remaining reform laws that represent a key condition for the continuation of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European integration,” Ćudić said.
“The European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot be selective or partial. Institutions have an obligation to simultaneously demonstrate the capacity to implement important projects and seriousness in carrying out European reforms,” she added.
