Romania, NATO focus on Eastern Flank defense during Bucharest talks
Oana Țoiu, Romania’s foreign minister, met with Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chairman of the NATO Military Committee, during his visit to Bucharest.
The discussions focused on the security of NATO’s Eastern Flank and the Black Sea region, air defense, and the Alliance’s response to recent drone incidents in the airspace of allied states, including Romania, CE Report informs via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania's official Facebook account.
Admiral Dragone stressed that Romania remains a reliable ally within NATO, highlighting the country’s contribution to NATO-led missions, the modernization of its armed forces, and its active role on the Eastern Flank. He reaffirmed the Alliance’s strong focus on the security of the Black Sea region and stated that allied support for Romania would continue firmly.
Minister Oana Țoiu underlined the strategic, energy, and economic importance of the Black Sea for Romania and Europe, also presenting the strengthened regional cooperation with Bulgaria and Turkey to protect the area.
She also emphasized the need for stronger allied cooperation against hybrid threats. The two officials discussed the NATO seminar that will be organized by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with NATO in October in Bucharest.
“Romania is deeply committed to developing the strongest defensive alliance in the world, and the more than 20 years since we joined NATO have built strong public trust in the North Atlantic Alliance — trust that can withstand any political storm. We need NATO for our security, and our allies know they can rely on us as well. The Alliance is currently facing multiple crises, pressure in relations among allies, and the need for greater innovation and coordination, while Romania has a key role in the coordination necessary for the Alliance’s evolution, as host next week of the B9 Summit in Bucharest and of the NATO seminar on hybrid threats that we will host this autumn,” said Oana Țoiu.
The NATO Military Committee is NATO’s highest military authority and brings together representatives of the armed forces of member states, serving as an advisory body for the Alliance’s political decisions.
