Romania Denies Hosting Ukrainian Jets
President Nicușor Dan on Friday firmly rejected Russian accusations that Romania allowed Ukrainian military planes to fly over its territory, calling the claims “totally false.”
“I have all the information, and that did not happen,” Dan stated when asked about comments from Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, CE Report quotes AGERPRES
Zakharova had criticized Romania’s response to the brief incursion of four Ukrainian aircraft into Romanian airspace on July 21. According to Romania’s Ministry of National Defence (MApN), radar detected several air targets near the Maramureș-Suceava border around 03:00 local time.
MApN said Ukraine had taken measures to relocate aircraft following Russian attacks on western Ukrainian airports. Twelve Ukrainian aircraft were detected near the border, and four briefly entered Romanian airspace without posing any threat.
Romanian F-16s and Italian Eurofighters were deployed for reconnaissance and monitoring. The situation was resolved without incident, and Romanian authorities emphasized it was an unintentional breach.
