Danish PM: Russia won’t stop at Ukraine

Ukraine is fighting for all of Europe while Russia shows no sign of wanting peace or stopping at Ukraine, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in Aarhus.

"We must increase our support for Ukraine because it is fighting for all of us," Frederiksen stated at a joint press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

On the occasion of assuming the rotating presidency, the Danish government hosted the College of European Commissioners in Aarhus, Denmark's second-largest city, CE Report quotes HINA.

"I don't believe for a second that Putin wants peace or intends to stop at Ukraine. Therefore, we must put Ukraine in the strongest possible position," Frederiksen said, adding that efforts must continue to weaken the Russian economy, strengthen sanctions, and stop importing Russian gas.

Commission President von der Leyen stated that the U.S. decision to partially suspend military aid to Ukraine shows that the EU must step up its support for the attacked country.

Von der Leyen urged member states to use the €150 billion SAFE credit program to provide military aid to Ukraine, either by purchasing military equipment or investing in Ukraine's defense industry.

The Danish Prime Minister added that her country had already started investing in the production of weapons and other military equipment on Ukrainian territory.

"This works very well, because they produce faster, better, and cheaper than the rest of us," Frederiksen said, adding that Ukraine still has 40 percent of its arms production capacity unused.

She also noted that halting American aid to Kyiv would be “a serious blow to Ukraine, Europe, and NATO.”
