Migrant Attacks Polish Soldier at Belarus Border

Poland

A Polish soldier was injured Thursday evening after being attacked by a migrant who crossed the Polish-Belarusian border near Michalow, officials reported Monday. Earlier, soldiers stationed there were pelted with stones by a group of migrants, CE Report quotes PAP

The assailant was detained by the Border Guard, and the injured soldier was hospitalised with a vision impairment, rendering him temporarily unfit for duty, said Blazej Lukaszewski, spokesperson for the Podlasie Military Task Force.

Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz praised the soldiers on social media, thanking them for defending Poland “under a barrage of stones and aggression.”

Since 2021, Poland has faced increasing migrant pressure from Belarus, which Warsaw accuses of deliberately fueling the crisis to destabilise the EU.
