Hołownia on Ukraine mission: Polish troops only under NATO's banner
Marshal of the lower house of the Polish Parliament, presidential candidate from the Poland 2050 party Szymon Hołownia did not rule out the participation of Polish troops in the peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, adding that the mission should be deployed only under the auspices and within the framework of NATO, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.
Hołownia spoke with journalists during a visit to Finland, commenting on the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron to deploy peacekeepers in Ukraine and his visit to Warsaw on Thursday, Ukrinform reports with reference to Rzeczpospolita.
As the Marshal of the Sejm noted, "some plan (regarding the mission in Ukraine - ed.) is emerging on the horizon." However, he warned that such a plan is still far from being agreed upon.
“From the Polish perspective, our participation in any military activities in Ukraine could only take place under the auspices of NATO and within the Alliance structures,” emphasized Hołownia. Read also: Zelensky, Tusk to exchange visits early next year - Polish PM
He added that at the moment, the Polish side is unaware of the details circulating between the presidents of France, Finland, Ukraine, and the U.S. administration.
“President Macron will come to Warsaw and, as I understand it, will present the details of the proposals and negotiations that he held on the occasion of the opening of the Notre Dame Cathedral,” emphasized the Sejm Marshal.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron will arrive in Warsaw on Thursday to discuss the possible deployment of a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday, after meeting at the Elysee Palace with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, that it is necessary to continue working together for the sake of peace.
Poland has recently repeatedly stated that the possible deployment of troops by NATO member states to Ukraine is currently off the table. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz recently noted that Poland has been training Ukrainian troops on its soil and has no intention of sending its instructors to Ukraine.
