Poland says no decision made to reduce US military presence

In Warsaw, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Poland Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz met with General Christopher Mahoney, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces.

“The most important thing is that there is no decision to reduce the US military presence in Poland. I have been calming the situation from the beginning and saying that no such decisions have been made. Yesterday this was officially confirmed by the American side. We are conducting a calm, rational and strategic cooperation policy—not one based on emotions or momentary events. No information noise will disrupt these relations. In the published statement it was clearly indicated that decisions taken in the United States may only temporarily delay the deployment of some US forces in Poland. It is not about reducing the presence, but about a temporary suspension related to the planning process. Poland remains a model ally,” said W. Kosiniak-Kamysz after the meeting.

The main topic of bilateral talks held at the Ministry of National Defence was Polish–American military cooperation and the implementation of joint tasks in strengthening security on NATO’s eastern flank, CE Report informs via the Polish Defence Ministry's official website.

“Poland meets all expectations for building a strong alliance: it invests in security, takes responsibility for the security of Europe, NATO’s eastern flank, and its own defence capabilities. Poland demonstrates this by allocating 5% of GDP to security and armaments, purchasing the most modern technologies, and co-financing the presence of US troops. This is about $15,000 annually per American soldier. Other European countries do not act this way. Poland is today a leader in spending, investment, transformation and transatlantic relations. This relationship must be based on partnership and friendship. Today with General Mahoney we discussed solidarity and cooperation. This is not a one-sided relationship,” the defence minister added.
