Trump says he is not worried about Russian attack

US President Donald Trump told Axios in a phone interview that he is not concerned about the possibility of Russia attacking a NATO member state, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

“I’m not concerned at all. There’s no problem,” Trump said when asked about the possibility of a Russian provocation against NATO countries.

The statement comes after CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s secret visit to Moscow, where he met on Tuesday with Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service. Some media reports said one of the purposes of the visit may have been to warn Moscow against a potential attack on a NATO member.

Trump, however, denied that Ratcliffe had delivered such a warning. The US president described the visit as “a routine working trip” and said he was surprised by the way it had been portrayed in the media.

“Ratcliffe meets with his Russian counterpart once every six months or once a year. They have a very good relationship. There was no special message and nothing unusual happened,” Trump said.

Naryshkin confirmed on Thursday that he had met with Ratcliffe during the CIA director’s visit to Moscow.

Reports about the visit emerged amid concerns over the security of NATO member states and the risk of the Russia-Ukraine war expanding. Trump did not indicate in his comments to Axios that there was any imminent threat to the North Atlantic Alliance.
