Poland aims to become regional LNG hub with US backing - EXCLUSIVE
The Strategic Dialogue confirmed that bilateral cooperation between Poland and the United States on defence matters is comprehensive. Polish and US forces will train and build up their interoperability, as well as continue to demonstrate Allied deterrence side by side.
Similarly, regarding the energy sector, both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening industrial cooperation and creating economic opportunities in both countries.
This was said by the source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland in an exclusive interview with CE Report.
The Ministry noted that Poland and the United States signed a framework agreement on critical minerals and agreed to cooperate to secure their supply chains.
"Poland and the United States also emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in the area of technological security, including by reducing dependence on high-risk suppliers in sensitive sectors and protecting critical technological infrastructure from external interference. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to secure global supply chains, including expanding cooperation in the area of critical minerals," the ministry added.
The source underlined that both countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding energy security cooperation.
"Poland and the United States discussed opportunities to strengthen their close partnership in energy security, including through the secure supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the region and supporting the implementation of civil nuclear energy projects involving U.S. companies to increase electricity generation capacity in Poland. Both sides committed to working together to ensure reliable, affordable, and secure energy supplies for Poland and the region. The United States expressed support for Poland's aspirations to become a regional LNG hub, replacing the historically vulnerable East-West model with a diversified North-South system," the source added.
The Ministry emphasized that Poland considers the U.S. a key ally in both contexts.
"We contribute to the NATO PURL programme as well as facilitate the delivery of European-financed, American-made equipment to Ukraine. Poland also finances a substantial part of the Starlink web used by Ukrainians – a key component contributing to their effective defence," said in the Ministry's statement.
Concerning European security, the source added that Poland has always valued US leadership in NATO.
"The US troops in Europe, including in Poland, are an important contribution to NATO collective defence. The US has rightfully asked European Allies to increase their share of burden related to assuring our own security. Poland is comprehensively modernizing its armed forces in close cooperation with both the US and our European partners. In light of the real threats to European security, we expect the same from other Allies", the source stated.
Poland has expressed its appreciation for being invited to participate at all levels of G20 work during the U.S. presidency, which represents a significant step in deepening its involvement. Importantly, the United States has explicitly stated its strong support for Poland’s accession to the G20 as a permanent member, alongside welcoming Poland’s engagement on key economic and regulatory issues, the Ministry concluded.
