Cypriot artists present three-day contemporary dance tribute in Poland
In a festive atmosphere, a three-day tribute to contemporary dance entitled “In Betweening – The Art of Exchange vol.2” was held by Cypriot artists in Lublin, Poland, from 22 to 24 May 2026, as part of the Cultural Programme of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026.
The events, which were presented by the Dance House Lemesos in collaboration with the Lublin National Choreographic Centre, aimed at strengthening the interconnection of the Cypriot and Polish choreographic scene, as well as the cultural extroversion and promotion of Cypriot artists, CE Report informs via the Cyprus Presidency's official website.
The overall programme was sponsored by the Deputy Ministry of Culture with the support of Adam Mickiewicz Institute and curated by the General and Artistic Director of the Dance House Lemesos, Ms Marina Kakoulli, and the Artistic Director of the National Choreographic Center of Lublin, Mr Ryszard Kalinowski. The first edition of “In Betweening – The Art of Exchange” took place in Lemesos, during the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU in March 2025.
At the official opening ceremony at the Lublin Cultural Centre on 22 May, the Cultural Officer, Ms Katrin Moschovaki, delivered an address on behalf of the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr Vasiliki Kassianidou. The General and Artistic Director of the Dance House Lemesos, Ms Marina Kakoulli, representatives of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Municipality of Lublin also addressed the audience.
In her address, Dr Kassianidou mentioned that: “During our Presidency, the last in the trio that started with Poland, we make the most of this experience and continue to act as facilitators to build bridges between EU member states, between the institutions and between Europe and its wider neighbouring countries”, underlining the unique ability of culture to enhance mutual understanding, express common values and make a meaningful contribution to cross-border dialogue.
The ceremony was followed by the performances titled “Loukoumi” by Zoe Eleftheriou and Alejjo, “In Memory of” and “Dead Mouse” by choreographer Milena Ugren Koulas, on the same day.
On 23 May 2026, a workshop for professionals was held at the Academy of Contemporary Art by the choreographer Milena Ugren Koulas, followed by a presentation of Diamanto Hadjizacharia's performance “A dance for the end of the world”. The next day, a workshop for professionals and a performance entitled “Never Just I” by the choreographer Evi Demetriou took place at the Cultural Centre.
The programme was enriched with artistic interventions by Polish choreographers.
