Moldova prepares to join the single European Sky

Moldova’s airspace sector will be prepared to implement the requirements of the Single European Sky and to gradually integrate into the European air traffic management system. A new regulatory framework in the field was approved by the Government today to align the organization and management of air services with European requirements, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

The new provisions more clearly define responsibilities for the regulation, supervision and provision of air traffic services, as well as communication, navigation and surveillance services.

“The rules also cover meteorological and aeronautical information services, air traffic data management and the provision of digital services. The implementation of the new framework is expected to contribute to more efficient air traffic management, including by optimizing flight routes and making more effective use of airspace. Another expected effect is increased air connectivity for the Republic of Moldova, which could support the development and competitiveness of the national civil aviation sector,” the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) explained.

To give authorities and industry operators sufficient time to adapt, the Regulation implementing the Single European Sky will enter into force on December 31, 2028.

Until then, Moldova’s aviation sector is expected to adjust its procedures, responsibilities and necessary infrastructure to meet the new requirements and gradually integrate into the European air traffic management system. According to MIDR, the measure is part of the process of aligning Moldova’s civil aviation sector with European Union standards and practices.
