MEC Seeks Yad Vashem Review of 12th Grade History Textbook

Moldova

The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) will request an evaluation of the 12th grade history textbook from Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Victims' Memorial. The conclusions of this review will inform future decisions, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun announced today, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Perciun reaffirmed that the crimes of the Antonescu regime against Jews in Romania and Bessarabia are unequivocally addressed in the textbook, which was developed by leading historians. However, to avoid speculation, MEC seeks an external review from Yad Vashem.

The minister stressed that history should be based on evidence rather than ideology and warned against the politicization of the past. He emphasized that partnerships with institutions like Yad Vashem reinforce MEC’s commitment to historical truth.

"Recognizing the past is not about blaming current generations but fostering societal maturity and reconciliation," Perciun stated, adding that minimizing or denying historical crimes undermines democratic values.

The new 12th-grade history textbooks, introduced this academic year, have sparked public debate regarding their content.
