Italy's labor minister dismisses allegations

The Rome Prosecutor’s Office has opened a file, currently without any suspects or specific allegations, in relation to a complaint filed by a university professor from Brescia concerning the academic background of the Minister of Labor, Marina Calderone, at Link Campus University, CE Report quotes ANSA.

Specifically, Professor Saverio Regasto, a tenured professor of comparative public law, asked the prosecutors in his complaint — which includes press clippings — to verify whether the degrees obtained by the minister in 2012 and 2016 were the result of any irregularities and, if so, whether any criminal offenses could be identified.

"I take note with great satisfaction of what my lawyer, Cesare Placanica, has communicated to me — that the Public Prosecutor at the Rome Tribunal, regarding the complaint filed against me in relation to my university education, has confirmed the absence of any criminal offense and, as a result, no one has been entered into the register of criminal reports.

For me, after such an authoritative confirmation, fully in line with what I have always maintained, this matter ends here.

At this point, I feel compelled to proceed with a defamation case against anyone who has made malicious insinuations against me,” said Minister of Labor and Social Policies Marina Calderone in a statement.
