The Italian-Spanish-Singaporean co-production The Violinist has won the top prize at the world's most prestigious festival dedicated to animated cinema.

Directed by Ervin Han and legendary former Disney animator Raúl García, the feature film won the Cristal Award for Best Feature Film, the highest honor at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

It also received the SACEM Award for Best Original Score, making it one of the festival's most decorated animated films this year, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The jury said it selected the film because it "reveals the devastating impact of war, leaving viewers with a profound and lasting impression that combines the emotional power of music, powerful performances, and the sweeping historical backdrop against which the human story unfolds."

The Violinist tells an epic story of love, music, and memory spanning several decades.

The story follows Fei, a legendary elderly violinist, who reveals to a Spanish journalist the secret that inspired her artistry throughout her life.

Set in Singapore during the 1930s, Fei, the daughter of a wealthy family, devotes herself to mastering the violin. One day she meets Kai, a street orphan with extraordinary musical talent. Their shared passion for music brings them together, and they fall in love.

Their lives are torn apart by the Japanese invasion of Singapore during World War II. After Kai's adoptive mother is killed, he joins the resistance to defend his homeland, entrusting his violin to Fei with a promise to return.

Fei spends the rest of her life searching for him in every audience while pursuing the dream they once shared. As the decades pass, only a haunting melody and the promise of a lost love remain—until one day everything changes.
