Fake Dentist Trio Charged in Czech Republic
A fake dentist and his two assistants, who treated dozens of patients in the Czech Republic after learning how to fix their teeth online, have been charged and face up to eight years in prison.
According to police, three members of the same family opened a poorly equipped dental clinic without any licenses or professional qualifications in the town of Havlickuv Brod in central Bohemia in 2024, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
The fake dentist, a twenty-two-year-old man, performed examinations, as well as tooth extractions, root canals, and anesthesia administration - all based on knowledge gained online. The fifty-year-old woman worked as a nurse, while the forty-four-year-old man, who provided the space, made dentures for patients.
"The woman, who previously worked in healthcare, purchased anesthesia, as well as other dental supplies she had access to, such as fillings, abrasive powders, adhesives, impression materials and more," police said.
The illegal clinic treated dozens of patients and generated around one hundred and sixty thousand euros. The trio was arrested earlier this month and charged with unauthorized practice, money laundering, attempted assault, unauthorized drug handling and theft.
After pleading guilty, they were released on bail and face up to eight years in prison.
Due to a chronic shortage of dentists, the Czech parliament last year passed a law that facilitates the employment of dentists from countries outside the European Union.
