More than half of all adults and a third of children, teenagers, and young adults worldwide could be overweight or obese by 2050, according to a new study published in The Lancet.

The research, based on data from over 200 countries, warns of a sharp rise in obesity rates, particularly in lower-income nations. As of 2021, nearly half of the global adult population—around 2.1 billion people—were overweight or obese, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

If current trends continue, obesity rates among adults could reach 57.4% for men and 60.3% for women by 2050. The study also highlights China, India, and the U.S. as the countries expected to have the highest numbers of overweight individuals.
