Chris Brown receives eight-month suspended sentence in London assault case
American rapper and R&B singer Chris Brown has been sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended, over an assault on a music producer at a London nightclub in February 2023.
The 37-year-old musician appeared before London’s Southwark Crown Court, where Judge Tony Baumgartner handed down the sentence, CE Report quotes ANSA.
Brown, who was arrested in Manchester last year in connection with the incident, will not serve time in prison under the suspended sentence.
His earlier guilty plea was taken into account by the court and resulted in a reduced sentence.
Omololu Akinlolu, a fellow rapper known professionally as Hoody Baby, who was charged as Brown’s accomplice, received a similar sentence.
Brown was arrested during European tour
Brown, who previously dated pop star Rihanna and has faced several legal proceedings in the United States, was arrested in May 2025 in connection with the alleged assault.
The arrest took place at night at a luxury hotel in Manchester, where the singer was staying during his European tour, following an order issued by London’s Metropolitan Police.
Brown was released on May 21, 2025, after posting bail of £5 million.
His release allowed him to continue his European concert tour, which included 10 performances in the United Kingdom.
The arrest followed a complaint filed with British police concerning the February 2023 incident.
Music producer reported nightclub attack
The case stemmed from an assault reported by music producer Abe Diaw, who said he had been attacked at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district.
Diaw alleged that he was struck on the head with a bottle during the incident.
According to his account, the attack caused him to lose consciousness and required hospital treatment.
Witness accounts also described the producer being punched and kicked during the confrontation.
Brown’s guilty plea and the court’s sentencing brought the criminal proceedings to a conclusion, with the musician avoiding an immediate prison term.
