Britney Spears enters rehab after arrest
American singer Britney Spears has reportedly begun a rehabilitation program about a month after her arrest in California for driving under the influence, AFP reports.
The former pop star was arrested in early March in California and later released, according to public records from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office near Los Angeles.
The documents do not specify whether she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
“It was an unfortunate and completely inexcusable incident. Britney will take the necessary steps and comply with the law,” one of her representatives said in a statement to Deadline.
On Sunday, several U.S. media outlets reported that the 44-year-old singer voluntarily entered a rehabilitation program at a treatment center, although the exact date and reason were not disclosed.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Britney Spears is scheduled to appear in court on May 4 in connection with her arrest.
The singer of hits like …Baby One More Time and Oops!… I Did It Again, who dominated the music scene in the 2000s, has had a turbulent life, detailed in her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me.
“I liked to drink, but I never lost control,” she wrote, also acknowledging that she used Adderall, a prescription medication for attention disorders that belongs to the amphetamine class.
She also wrote about her childhood marked by poverty, her relationship struggles with Justin Timberlake, and harassment from paparazzi.
After her widely publicized breakdown in 2007, Spears was placed under a conservatorship led by her father Jamie Spears, who controlled her finances and personal life while she continued performing.
Supported by fans under the “Free Britney” movement, she eventually challenged the arrangement, and U.S. courts ended the conservatorship in 2021.
