North Macedonia approves new rules for e-scooters
The Parliament of North Macedonia, at its last session, passed amendments to the Law on Road Traffic Safety, under a fast-track procedure, regulating e-scooter use in traffic.
The legislation updates item 57 of the Law on Road Traffic Safety to establish Light Electric Vehicles (LEVs) as a category that includes e-scooters, incorporating regional road safety comparisons and emerging micro-mobility trends, CE Report quotes MIA.
The amendments cap the maximum allowed speed for LEVs at 20 km/h in accordance with European Union recommendations in the area of traffic regulation for this type of vehicles.
In addition, the new rules ban the use of e-scooters for anyone under the age of 18, and introduce stricter enforcement and fines to curb reckless riding and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
