Croatian Civic Society of Montenegro celebrates 25 years of cultural preservation
The Croatian Civic Society of Montenegro marked the 25th anniversary of its founding with a cruise around the Bay of Kotor aboard the vessel Katica.
Addressing numerous guests, the society’s president Mirko Vičević highlighted its role in preserving the identity of Croats in Montenegro, CE Report quotes HINA.
“Much has been achieved over these years, thanks to everyone who helped create and realise these achievements, especially those who had the courage and vision to establish the Croatian Civic Society of Montenegro in those times,” he said.
Dario Magdić, an envoy of Croatia's state secretary for Croats abroad, said the Croats of the Bay of Kotor had created an exceptional heritage and were deeply woven into the history of Montenegro’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
“This is something on which Montenegro can build its European and Mediterranean identity. We are proud of you. For 25 years, the Croatian Civic Society has preserved Croatian identity, language and culture. You are bridges between Montenegro and Croatia,” he said.
Vanda Babić Galić, special adviser to Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman, said the society played a connecting role and was one of the pillars of Croatian identity in the Bay of Kotor, serving as a link between Montenegro and Croatia.
“The Hrvatski glasnik is a very important project. It is not merely a magazine but also valuable literature for researchers,” she said.
She pledged Croatia’s continued support for Croatian associations in Montenegro as well as for Montenegro’s path towards European Union membership, expressing hope that the country would join the bloc in 2028.
Awards were presented to individuals and organisations at the ceremony.
The Croatian Civic Society of Montenegro was founded in 2001 as a non-governmental, non-profit association bringing together Croats with the aim of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Croats in Montenegro as an indigenous community.
