International Museum Day is being marked today, with museums across Moldova announcing special programs for the public ahead of the upcoming European Night of Museums on May 23.

Museums in Chișinău and across the country will open their doors late into the night and offer free access to exhibitions, concerts, workshops, and interactive cultural activities, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

At the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History of Moldova, visitors can expect craft fairs featuring folk artisans, creative workshops for children and adults, musical performances, and interactive events focused on cultural and natural heritage. The program is being held under the theme “Museums that unite a divided world.”

The National Museum of History of Moldova will host thematic exhibitions, nighttime guided visits, and special cultural activities dedicated to the International Museum Day, also offering free entry as part of the European Night of Museums.

Meanwhile, the National Art Museum of Moldova will present piano, violin, accordion, trumpet, and saxophone recitals performed by students, teachers, and guest artists from local art institutions. The museum will remain open to visitors until near midnight.

The Chisinau Water Tower Museum will also participate, offering exhibitions and activities dedicated to the history of the city.

European Night of Museums is held every year across many European countries to promote cultural heritage and make museums more accessible through interactive and free public events.

International Council of Museums established International Museum Day in 1977 to highlight the role of museums in preserving cultural heritage, supporting education, and encouraging intercultural dialogue.
