Albanian Film Festival showcases 20 movies in Berlin
Twenty Albanian films are being screened at Babylon in Berlin as part of the “Fly Like an Eagle” Albanian Film Festival, showcasing the country’s cinematic heritage from restored communist-era classics to contemporary productions, documentaries and short films.
The screenings, which began on May 7 and run through May 13, bring Albanian cinema to audiences in the German capital over six consecutive nights, CE Report quotes ATA.
The programme features restored movies from the former film studio Kinostudio “Shqipëria e Re”, alongside recent works from modern Albanian cinema.
Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama took to the social media to share footage from the event and invited audiences in Berlin to attend the screenings at Babylon cinema.
The festival opened with the iconic Albanian film Vdekja e kalit (“The Death of the Horse”), followed by a discussion with actor Timo Flloko moderated by filmmaker Odeta Çunaj.
Opening remarks were delivered by Albania’s ambassador to Germany, Adia Sakiqi, Central State Film Archive director Eljan Tanini, and programme curator Elson Zguri, who described the festival as a cultural bridge between Albania and German and international audiences.
The festival also features an exhibition by Albanian artist Klevis Ibrahimi, presenting 12 paintings inspired by iconic Albanian films.
The event is supported by the Albanian embassy in Berlin, Albania’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Cultur Alb, the National Center of Cinematography, the Central State Film Archive, Babylon Berlin and programme curator Elson Zguri.
